For this anthology, Ian McKay selected texts from twenty-five years of his writing about photography. Topics range from European contemporaries to the Polaroid subculture, cellphone portraiture to camera obscuras. Among the photographers featured are, Annie Leibovitz, Boyd & Evans, Simon Larbalestier, Jan Saudek, Lee Miller, and several of the most celebrated 19th and early-20th century pioneers. Also included is On the Death of Czech Culture, a long essay from 1994 about Pavel Stecha and post communist Czechoslovakia which has been out of print for several years. The book includes a Foreword by the arts writer and publisher Mike Von Joel.

'When I sat in the Editor's desk at Art Line magazine in the Late-1980s we ran some insightful texts by a young writer with a fresh take on events who could spot the emerging photographic trends of the day. Over twenty years later, and at the helm of an upmarket international glossy magazine on photography and art, that same intrepid scribe became an integral part of my team with the hazy role of Editor at Large in Europe. Some of his most insightful texts on photography were printed in Photoicon during its two hectic years of life.'

– Editor & Publisher, Mike von Joel
